PIQUE Policy Paper 2: The impact of liberalisation and privatisation on labour relations is the second of a series of Policy Papers to be produced for the EU-funded research project PIQUE (Privatisation of Public Services and the Impact on Quality, Employment and Productivity). Based on a comprehensive report on the transformation of labour relations following liberalisation and privatisation in four sectors (electricity, postal services, local public transport and hospitals) and six countries (Austria, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Sweden, UK), the Policy Paper presents the main results and argues for strong and sector- wide social regulations in order to make sure that competition translates into increasing quality and productivity and not into deteriorating employment and working conditions.
